Preface
I am very much delighted to present this self-study guide book on "Amharic - Speak with the Hearts of Ethiopians". This book has got several unique features to Speak to Peak.
Each and every letter of the word has been separated to pronounce easily, accurately and at par with the native speakers of a language. The key letters in the word have been bolded and/or underlined to track how the verb forms (doing and doing verb) varies according to the subject. Each and every spoken grammatical concept has been presented with the rules, notes, important notes, explanation. examples, controlled and guided exercises (written and oral) to speak the language accurately and naturally. The whole book has been presented in the form tables for utmost clarity.
Self interest propelled me to embark this endeavor the day I landed in Ethiopia due to the fact that the Language is the bridge, but also a barrier. I have written this guide book for several reasons such as to break down the language barriers between the communities and people, to establish further communication between Ethiopia and the rest of the world, to make avail the trilingual self-study guide book on the native language of Ethiopia for the documentation.
I envision this self-study guide book as directed primarily toward foreigners and for the Ethiopians whose mother tongue is other than Amharic. I believe that foreigners can find a practical approach with the spoken grammatical support and those who wish to brush-up their English language skills also could find this book useful, but I view them as a secondary audience. I hope it will not go in vain in facilitating the self-learning aspirations of Non-Amharic people who wish to enrich their
communication skills in Amharic.
I have taught Spoken English and I have rich experience in imparting communication skills in English by running a Spoken English Institute in my home country for more than ten years. This self-study guide book would reflect my journey as an Academic Researcher, Professor, Acclaimed Language Trainer, Multilingual, Translator and Strategic Leamer of various native languages. In the process of writing this book, I have spent countless hours at the library and referred various literatures available on this language and through in depth discussion with the native speakers and instructors of the language at the school and university levels, elders, and leaders in the local community to make the book highly qualitative.
This guide book is organised in to four parts. Part 1, deals with the essential spoken grammar. Part 2, deals with the list of habitual, past and continuous actions. Part 3, deals with the essential verbs with their forms in all the tensc;s. Part 4 deal with essential conversational topics. |
