Author's Note
As with all legends passed down over time from one generation to another ,there are many variations of the story of the origin of Ethiopia coffee including variations of the young goatherd's name from kaldi to kalid to kalib. The version I 've presented here is my own, based on conversations I've had with many different Ethiopians.
I 've exercised poetic license to elaborate or embellish different aspects of the story to make it more enjoyable to younger audience.
Interestingly, Ethiopians themselves call coffee "buna"
a word referring to the rich brown color of coffee, rather than calling it "coffee"after the Kaffa region. Some people believe the English word "coffee" originates from the Arabic word "qahwa" rather than from the word "Kaffa",although they still credit the Kaffa region as being the home or birthplace of coffee as we know it today. Also, I'd like to note that Ethiopian children usually do not start drinking coffee until they are young adults,as it is considered as addictive stimulant,so I also advise children around the world not to drinking coffee until they are much older.Coffee doesn't actually make you want to dance!you might just think it does! |
